Hikari Staple is the daily foundation diet for koi and pond fish in warmer water. This everyday Hikari koi food promotes steady growth, good body form and clean water.

Staple is the starting point in our Hikari fish food range. The floating pellets make it easy to watch appetite and activity, and unlike sinking foods they do not break down and cloud the pond. For stronger colour in warm water, choose Hikari Gold. Below 11°C, switch to Hikari Wheat Germ Formula. Feeding a big pond on a budget? Hikari Friend 10kg is the economical daily diet.

Feeding guide

Monitor water temperature and adjust quantity and frequency to suit. Remove uneaten food after the feeding period.

• 18 to 30°C (64 to 86°F): feed 2 to 4 times a day, the amount eaten within 5 minutes
• 11 to 18°C (52 to 64°F): feed no more than twice a day, in the warmest part of the day
• Below 11°C (52°F): switch to Hikari Wheat-Germ Formula

Will Hikari Staple cloud my pond?
